Essay Writing Assistance

Essay Writing Assistance Each support sentence and its two detail/example sentences are shown in different colors so you can see where one ends and the next begins. Finally, the closing sentence neatly ties back to the topic sentence by rephrasing it. Remember that all paragraphs should contain a topic sentence. It may be even more important in the expository paragraph because this is where the main idea of the paragraph is expressed. This topic sentence lets the reader know what the rest of the paragraph will discuss. Keep revising until the thesis reflects your real ideas. Avoid burying a great thesis statement in the middle of a paragraph or late in the paper. Also, notice the use of third person point of view in this paragraph. The third person point of view is most commonly used for expository writing, technical writing, and any other sort of writing that has a business-minded or persuasive intention or purpose. For our purposes in this class, you will always use third person point of view when writing expository paragraphs, unless otherwise directed. Then draw three or more lines extending from the circle. At the end of each of the lines you have drawn, write down a new idea that corresponds to your main idea. Then draw three or more lines from each of those new ideas, and write ideas that corresponds to those ideas. Continue developing your cluster until you feel that you have explored as many connections as you can. Although outlining a paper can help you to develop and organize your ideas, you may need to do some other prewriting exercises to get started. Avoid, avoid, avoid generic arguments and formula statements. They work well to get a rough draft started, but will easily bore a reader. This means there should be no “I” or “you” words anywhere in the paragraph. The topic sentence in the example lets the reader know that the paragraph will talk about the expenses of going to college. Immediately following the topic sentence is the first supporting sentence and two detail/example sentences. In an expository paragraph, you give information. You explain a subject, give directions, or show how something happens. In expository writing, linking words like first, second, then, and finally are usually used to help readers follow the ideas. When you read a textbook, the news, magazine articles, or any other types of publications, you are reading expository writing. When you write answers for an essay test, you use the expository form. A thesis should not be more than one sentence in length. Once you have developed your ideas and considered your purpose and audience, you should be ready to write a thesis statement. Write your subject down on the center of a piece of paper and circle it. This makes the content scannable and easy to digest. Each paragraph should be centered around just one argument or idea. The first sentence of the introduction should pique the interest of your reader. The final sub-point should be your thesis statement. State the idea or argument that you plan to discuss in your essay. Determine whether to use full sentences or brief phrases in your outline. For most outline essays, full sentences will prove more useful because they allow you to provide more thorough information. Effective thesis statements express the main focus of a paper and state an arguable claim. High school essays are often 500 words, but graduate essays can be 5000 words or more. My introduction contains a thesis statement that states the focus and position of the essay. To give your essay a clear structure, it is important to make use of paragraphsand headings.

College Admissions Consultants

College Admissions Consultants October 26, 2012 College admissions consultants can often help students gain admission to highly selective colleges. And Jeffrey Brenzel, the outgoing Dean of Admissions at Yale, knows this very well. There was a great piece written by Lynn OShaughnessy about college admissions consultants and how highly selective universities like to deny their effectiveness as a group. Are there college admissions consultants who arent effective? You bet. Just like in any industry, youve got good companies and youve got bad companies. Some college consultants have an actual expertise and track record for helping their students gain admission to highly selective colleges and others, well, just dont. Its that simple. But its ironic that deans of admission at highly selective colleges have a habit of not acknowledging that college admissions consultants can help students gain admission. And why would they? Why would they acknowledge that the system they partake in, one they work at each and every day, is a system that students can do better in with strategic, expert help? It just wouldnt make sense for them to do so. It would be a blow to their egos. Here they are trying to put forward to the world that they are doing excellent work, trying to find the best and brightest, the most diverse students for their incoming class. Wouldnt it be embarrassing for them to acknowledge that college admissions consultants can help students win in the system they work to foster? You bet. Its particularly ironic that these very deans of admission, as Ms. OShaughnessy points out, contribute greatly to making the highly selective college admissions process more stressful and more competitive. After all, theyre the ones who send out brochures to students (essentially recruiting them to apply) even if they know full well these students have no shot of ever getting in. Ms. OShaughnessy even quotes Yales Dean of Admission Jeffrey Brenzel: I believe that most of the funds expended on independent counselors are simply wasted. We do not believe they have much, if any, effect on who we accept. Uh huh. Do you really think he actually believes that? Not a chance. Mr. Brenzel recently stepped down as Dean of Admission. It wouldnt come as a great surprise to us if he, too, became a private college admissions consultant. It would be no great surprise at all no matter what he says hes going to do professionally after his tenure.

Student Retention Of Universities A Literature Review

Student Retention in Universities A Literature Review Benjamin J. Curran Corona del Sol Preparatory Academy Author’s Note This paper is written for Professor Johnson’s fourth hour English 102 Class Student Retention in Universities Over half of first time undergraduate students fail to obtain a degree within a six year time period. Premature exit of university students has stumped even the most dedicated analysts. Extensive theories have surfaced in an effort to elucidate student attrition. Vincent Tinto constructed new trains of thought with his avant-garde study in 2001. Tinto was led to revise his work in 2005 in the midst of criticism competing theorists. These scholars set the precedent for modern research conducted in the field of student attrition. Upon review of literature, compelling similarities and criticisms are contrived around the same basic theories. Primitive information existed before examination under Tinto. In fact, most other subsequent studies reference and base their theories off his perceived models. Other theorists such as Gary Metz believe that Tinto’s work is actually derived from Rites of Passage, by Arnold Gennep. Concentrating on the anthropological aspect of homosapien rites of passage, Gennep’s observations explicate common human behavior exhibited throughout the college experience. Tinto reflects a specific segment of the book encompassing initiation rites. Effective Financial Management A Agencies -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Effective Financial Management A Agencies? Answer: Introduction The present study is based on preparing journal entries for Preston Village for recording it in the appropriate government funds by considering both Modified accrual accountingand full accrual accounting method. Further prepared journal entries for reflecting the transactions on government-wide statements will be justified by describing significant for both sets of financial statements. Modified accrual accountingis meant for realizing proceeds when they turn into accessible and measurable having some exceptions while recognizing expenses during the occurrence of liabilities (McKinney, 2015). Journal entries according to modified accrual basis are as follows: Preston Village issued $20million to acquire a new building for municipal office in a capital project fund; the profits were recorded. Cash a/c Dr. $20,000,000 Bonds a/c Cr. $20,000,000 The company purchased the specified building by giving the amount of $20 million. Expenditure a/c Dr. $20,000,000 Cash a/c Cr. $20,000,000 The company recorded the transaction by making depreciation on $300000 on the municipal vehicles. A) Modified accrual none Transfer of $2060000 has been made from general fund to debt service fund. Transfer out to debt service fund a/c Dr. $2,060,000 Cash a/c Cr. $2,060,000 Cash a/c Dr. $2,060,000 Transfer from general fund $2,060,000 The company made a payment of $60000 with interest on a long-term debt while repaying $2 million on the same debt. Expenditure-principle a/c Dr. $2,000,000 Expenditure-interest a/c Dr. $60,000 Cash a/c Cr. $2,060,000 A village land was sold for $5 million which has been purchased for $4million. The profits were further recorded in the general fund. Cash a/c Dr. $5,000,000 Proceeds-land a/c Cr. $5,000,000 The full accrual basis of accounting is meant for recognizing financial impacts of activities on an entity on an accounting period, despite the fact that, if or if not the cash was earned or spent (Bloch, 2016). In context with business, full accrual accounting is used to identify an appropriate net profit, to evaluate the financial performance of the business and to consider income with expenditures during an accounting period (Cunha, 2015). In context with business, the measurement of net profit is not considered as the main objective, however, in accordance with the GASB 34, GWFS are showed by making use of full accrual method. Journal entries according to full accrual basis are as follows: Preston Village issued $20million to acquire a new building for a municipal office. In a capital project fund, the profits were recorded. Cash a/c Dr. $20,000,000 Bonds payable a/c Cr. $20,000,000 The company purchased the specified building by giving the amount of $20 million. Building a/c Dr. $20,000,000 Cash a/c Cr. $20,000,000 The company recorded the transaction by making depreciation on $300000 on the municipal vehicles. Depreciation expense a/c Dr. $300,000 Accum depn a/c Cr. $300,000 Transfer of $2060000 has been made from general fund to debt service fund The company made a payment of $60000 with interest on a long-term debt while repaying $2 million on the same debt. Expenditure-bond a/c Dr. $60,000 Bonds payable a/c Dr. $2,000,000 Cash a/c Cr. $2,060,000 A village land was sold for $5 million which has been purchased for $4million. The profits were further recorded in the general fund. Given that, the government entities are justified in preparing two sets of financial statements, as these deliver different rationales for entities (Granof, Khumawala Smith, 2016). One financial statement is meant to reflect the budgetary requirements for entities during the reporting period, and the another reports the entity as a large and its achievements on inter-period equity Conclusion In accordance with the present study conclusion can be drawn that similar to corporate entities, government entities are also required to record their accounting transactions in an appropriate manner. By considering accounting principles of South Africa, government entities are justified in preparing two sets of financial statements, one financial statement offers a holistic image of government as well as the full accrual both based on the inter-period equity. Further, the other fund statement gives more consideration towards the budget, References Bloch, R. (2016). Psychological Disorder †Bipolar

Manic-depressive disorder or bipolar disorder is a mental illness characterized by radical and unprecedented emotional changes. These mood changes swing from depressive lows to manic highs.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Psychological Disorder – Bipolar specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More People inflicted by this disorder generally encounter alternating episodes of depression and mania (Collingwood, 2010, Para. 2). National institute of mental health reported in 1991 that, in just the US alone, two million persons suffer from manic-depressive disorder causing the US to incur an expense of about $45 billion annually in diagnosis and subsequent treatment process. Unfortunately, the disorder’s diagnosis proves difficult due to the sophisticated nature of the disorder. Consequently, More often than not, the diagnosis experiences a delay of several years (Steger Kashdan, 2009, p.299). In the light of the quantification of repercussions of the disorder in monetary terms, its effects on individual or personal development and socialization remain worth noting. Socialization and Some Normal Socialization Processes Socialization entangles an active participation and being part of other people. Socialization is a process associated with some ardent steps that one must take to ensure that other people develop substantial trust in him/her so that they can confide in him/her. The other way round should also hold true for any group of people considered socially right. Some of the normal social behaviors include hanging out with friends, calling them up, joining similar or same clubs with friends among others (Elgie Morselli, 2007, p.145). This way, individuals can work actively towards some common goals and objectives, as spelt out by the membership groups to which they belong. The desire to socialize originates from an individual intrinsically. Therefore, for the socialization process to ta ke place, one must make personal decisions to identify oneself with a certain group. This can come through starting interactions with family members or even friends. Initiation of interactions is achievable for instance through inviting other people for chats, party or any other way of spending time together. One can also create personal profiles in social networks or join other hobby social networks. Participating in civic, religious, service and all sorts of community forums or even making personal introductions as much as possible to new neighbors and new people in general are all crucial catalysts of fostering socialization processes. Human development The word development is employed to describe some aspects of biological, physical, social and cognitive capacities growth throughout the entire human life. The scientific approach in human development attempts to unveil the reasons as to why people change throughout their life (Martin, 2010, Para. 11).Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Understanding emotional, social, personality, physical, Intellectual and perpetual human development processes from a health dimension is crucial since it provides a mechanism of identifying the causes and where possible the remedies of health problems can be determined. In relation to mental health problems, personality development is a crucial process. It encompasses complex mental traits, which direct individuals to act uniquely compared to all other people. During the developmental process, some of these factors may cause anxiety for instance by inculcating a feeling the desires of being more or less like one’s social group members despite different personal affiliations. Such a behavior is perceived as normal un til it becomes excessive to the extent that it can cause mental disorders such as bipolar disorder. Relationship between human development and socialization Factors such as cultural beliefs, emotions, and expectations among others play key roles in shaping an individual’s normal personality development. Majority of the influences of this growth in human beings are believed to be either genotypic or phenotypic. According to scholastic psychological studies, factors contributing to basic personality development such as emotional tone are attributable to heredity. On the other hand, beliefs, values and expectations are directly relatable to socialization particularly during childhood (Steger Kashdan, 2009, p.291). Some of the hereditary personality development factors greatly interact with the social environment to determine how one perceives himself or herself. For example, how a person perceives himself/herself is amicably dependent on how others see him/her, which again depe nds on the mental, and physical capabilities that have been genetically inherited (Collingwood, 2010, Para. 8). Evidently, the characteristics of human beings are rigidly tied together by the existing inseparable relationship between socialization and factors that foster human development. Effects of bipolar disorder on human development and socialization All strategies for initiating the socialization process demand an individual to have enthusiastic urge characterized by enormous desire to achieve results. Unfortunately, people with manic-depressive disorder have ‘nothing’ or ‘all’ behavior. During times of highs, those afflicted by the disorder, are more likely to socialize more and poorly during the times of lows. Since temporally relations are deemed to cause less benefits as opposed to deeper and caring relationships (Elgie Morselli, 2007, p.149), bipolar disorder impairs one’s capability to establish long lasting social relationships. On the other hand, bipolar disorder can affect the way one perceives herself or himself especially during periods of low self-esteem (‘nothing’ behavior period).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Psychological Disorder – Bipolar specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More As Collingwood (2010) notes, bipolar disorder has the capacity to cause negative effects on the patients family, social life and work particularly during acute phases (Para.12). Having negative perceptions to the key spheres indentified above poses a mega challenge to personality development since the workmates, family members and social life members incredibly dictate this form of human development. Using German Participles as Adjectives and Adverbs

Using German Participles as Adjectives and Adverbs As in English, the past participle of a German verb may be used as an adjective or adverb. In English,  stolen  is the past participle of the verb  to steal. The word  stolen  can be used as an adjective, as in: â€Å"Thats a  stolen  car.† Similarly, in German the past participle  gestohlen  (fromstehlen, to steal) can also be used as an adjective: â€Å"Das ist ein  gestohlenes  Auto.† The only significant difference between the ways that English and German use the past participle as an adjective is the fact that, unlike English adjectives, German adjectives must have an appropriate ending if they precede a noun. (Notice the -es  ending in the example above. More about adjective endings in  Lesson 5  and  Adjective Endings.) Of course, it also helps if you know the correct past participle forms to use. A past participle such as  interessiert  (interested) can also be used as an adverb: â€Å"Wir saheninteressiert  zu.† (â€Å"We watched  interestedly/with interest.†) Present Participles Unlike its English equivalent, the present participle in German is used almost exclusively as an adjective or adverb. For other uses, German present participles are usually replaced by nominalized verbs (verbs used as nouns) -   das Lesen  (reading),  das Schwimmen  (swimming) - to function like English gerunds, for instance. In English, the present participle has an -ingending. In German the present participle ends in -end:  weinend  (crying),  pfeifend  (whistling),schlafend  (sleeping). In German, â€Å"a  sleeping  child† is â€Å"ein  schlafendes  Kind.† As with any adjective in German, the ending must fit the grammatical context, in this case an -es  ending (neuter/das). Many present participle adjective phrases in German are translated with a relative clause or an appositive phrase in English. For example, â€Å"Der  schnell vorbeifahrende  Zug machte großen Lrm,† would be, â€Å"The train, which was  quickly passing by, made a tremendous noise,† rather than the literal, â€Å"The quickly passing by train...† When used as adverbs, German present participles are treated like any other adverb, and the English translation usually places the adverb or adverbial phrase at the end: â€Å"Er kam  pfeifend  ins Zimmer.† â€Å"He came into the room  whistling.† Present participles are used more often in writing than in spoken German. Youll run across them a lot when reading books, magazines, or newspapers.
